Always Being Prepared
I remember a time, as a new Notary Public when I was not prepared. It cost me $175, the cleint a couple more days without their keys and instead of closing in November it closed the first week in December. Remember as a Notary especially when notarizing loan docs, people are trusting you with very valuable information. Not having the tools necessary for their success is not okay.
Always remeber to bring at least 2 blue pens and 2 black pens, a thumb print, post it notes, a stapler and a jurat stamp.

How to Market your Notary Business
If you are a Notary, I am sure that you’ve taken the class where they claim you will be making six figures within the next couple of months. The problem with that is they do not explain how difficult of a task it will be. In order to make it to this level, you must be very wise in how you market your business.
I suggest selecting a specific demographic that you would like to market to. For example, I noticed that there weren’t many notaries in the city of Compton; the closest mobile Notary was about 10 miles away. As a result, I dedcided that I would take on the task of becoming the number one Compton Notary Public.
I started building relationships with the local Attorneys and Real Estate Agents sending them business and in return, they would send me business. I also posted an ad in the local yellow pages and passed out flyers. Although I haven’t seen the six figures roll in as of yet, I have seen an increase in the number of calls I receive on a weekly basis.
My advice to you is to definitely have a plan. Having a plan makes the task less difficult; you work smarter not harder.

Remember that Notary Publics are very different from a Notario Publico. In Mexico, Notario Publicos are able to give legal advice as well as notarize documents. However, in the United States, a Notary Public has one job and one job only. To verify the identity of the person or persons signing documents. As a Compton Notary Public, I have been contacted a number of times and upon arrival, I was asked to read the document and evaluate it. All Notaries should keep this in mind as it can come back and harm you.
